Year 6 SATs

Preparing for the Year 6 SATs can feel like a big step, but my role is to make the journey as supportive and rewarding as possible. Every lesson is carefully personalised to your child – no two children learn in exactly the same way, so I ensure each session builds on their strengths while gently supporting the areas they find more challenging.

We cover all areas of the SATs – reading, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and maths – through a mixture of clear, focused teaching and regular exam-style practice. As a senior, specialist SATs marker, I know exactly what examiners are looking for and use this insight to guide your child with precision. This means they develop not only strong subject knowledge but also the strategies, exam techniques, and speed they need to succeed, without feeling overwhelmed.

Confidence is at the heart of everything I do. Lessons are interactive and enjoyable, with plenty of encouragement to help children realise just how capable they are. Over time, they gain the skills to tackle even the trickiest questions, as well as the resilience and self-belief to perform at their very best when it matters most.

At Primary Path Education, my goal is for children to leave each lesson feeling proud, motivated, and ready for the next step – because real success in SATs is built on both knowledge and confidence.

Learn how to approach every SATs question with confidence and efficiency. As a senior, specialist SATs marker, I share unique insights into what examiners look for and how to secure the best marks. Lessons focus on tricky vocabulary, when to expand answers, and tackling 3-mark questions without the stress.

Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar (SPaG)
Starting with a research-backed approach to mastering the spelling test, we then move on to the key terms and question types in the SPaG paper itself. As someone who has contributed to a national spelling scheme, I bring specialist insight into how children learn spelling most effectively. Through a blend of targeted lessons and realistic mock tests, your child will feel confident, prepared, and ready for success on the day.

Maths (Reasoning and Problem Solving)
Across two papers, children are assessed on a wide range of mathematical concepts, often presented as word problems or multi-step challenges. In lessons, we focus on breaking down these questions into manageable parts, helping your child to identify a clear starting point. This approach builds confidence and equips them with the strategies needed to tackle even the trickiest problems with success.

Writing
Although there is no formal SATs paper for writing, children are still carefully assessed on their skills at the end of Year 6 by their teachers. Once levels are determined, the local authority may moderate a school to ensure these judgements are accurate. As a former Year 6 teacher and senior writing moderator, I bring first-hand expertise in what assessors are looking for. Lessons focus on strengthening spelling, punctuation, grammar, and composition, while also developing creativity and fluency. This means your child not only meets the required standards but grows in confidence as a writer, ready for the next stage of their education.
